Carceri D'Invenzione (XVIA)

High Gallery, with Stairs, Window, and Majestic Vista

You stand high above the floor on a stone walkway. Precarious catwalks cling to the walls and project dizzyingly outwards into empty space. Above the walkway is a large circular window giving a majestic view over an ancient ruined city. You see open squares, triumphal monuments, cathedrals, and fountains. Even from this distance, you can see that many of the buildings have fallen into decay. Mature trees thrust through tumbled and broken pillars. Craning through the window, you find a stone staircase crawling down the outside of these vast prisons. There are no handholds, and it is a long way down. Below the window a near-illegible inscription is carved in the stone: "V-d--- di R---"
