A Platform Approached by Steps
Sunshine floods into this space from windows set in the walls high
above, mocking the imprisonment of those who wander these halls. The
windows are unbarred, but unreachable. A stone staircase leads up to a
low platform running along the east wall. The front of the platform is
railed by posts linked by heavy chain. Here, official ceremonies must
once have been held, but the place is now silent and deserted. On either
side of the staircase, below the platform, are barred windows at floor
level. Looking through these windows, you see down into empty
store-rooms. You have a sense that these rooms were recently in use.
